My 10 yr old in the past couple of days has lost weight, seems weak, and staggers when he walks. He doesn't seem to have a fever and purrs as normal. What could be wrong? Is it just his age and something expect with age:confused? My two other cats seem fine.

Given the age of the cat, as you say, l0 years, I wouldn't be surprised at weight loss but the staggering and weakness would worry me and I would want it checked out by a vet. Just because he is old doesn't mean his fondness for you has diminished, hence the purring. Look after your old friend.

Actually, weight loss that occurs in mere days is always cause for concern. (Assuming that we are talking weight loss significant enough to be noticeable in that short of a time.) Combine that with the stumbling and the weakness, and my first thought is probably electrolyte imbalance. But it could be many things. It's time for a vet visit, especially since this could potentially result in serious side effects if not treated promptly.

Yes, and don't delay that vet visit. I have to assume if he is losing weight he is not eating... is he drinking and using the bathroom... he really needs to be seen. I would not wait until Monday.
