My 92 ford ranger 2.3l has recently died. Bought used for eally cheap, might be my problem. But when we bought it the engine would sputter and run very rough for the 1st 5- 15 seconds depending on how long ago its been started but no matter what it would always do it. Not having money to fix it at the time I drove it as is... that was a mstake I know. But a couple weeks ago I haven't started it for a couple weeks and now it won't start. It turns over but won't fire. The first couple tries it acted like it was going to start but then it backfired and after that it just won't fire at all. I can't take it to auto zone or a garage (right now) to get it tested because it don't run and it will cost too much right now for it to ge towed to a mechanic to look at it I need some suggestions of what it might be so when I do save some extra money to fix it I will have a vague idea of how much money it will be

. Check all under-dash and under-hood fuses with a test light or multimeter:

. Check for codes.

. Test for spark.

. Test the Ignition Control Module--AutoZone can do this for free. Here's what it looks like:

While we find your parts, please enter your ZIP Code at PartsAmerica.com (http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=NIE&MfrPartNumber=FF415&PartType=194&PTSet=A)

. Test the coil--AutoZone can do this for free. Here's what it also looks like:

While we find your parts, please enter your ZIP Code at PartsAmerica.com (http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?PartType=190&PTSet=A)

. Test for fuel. Can you hear the fuel pump run, when the ignition key is turned to ON?
