How can I be more sociable?

I am a cosmetologist. So I need some how to talk to more people to get more clients, but I don't want to just be like I do hair, so come see me for a haircut.

You can lead the conversation in the direction of bringing what you do for a living into the conversation.

I say, "hey how are you?" or "hows your day been?"

I'm thinking about working at a pizza inn to talk to people to bring clients because I'm trying to build up my clientel and ill do any thing to help.

Those are good ways to start conversations. For potential customers, I would ask them more about their own interests and then the things that you and they might have in common. When asking them about where they work, and if they don't in turn ask you where you work, then I would ask them where they work.

Do you know how to advertise on the Internet or in programs for activities that might be taking place in theaters or other places around where you live?

Yes I'm a cosmetologist.
I took 2 years of cosmetology while I was in high school.
I just got started in the business this may.
I work in a small salon with 2 other girls.
The one that owns it has been doing hair for 16 years and the other has for a year and had the same cosmo teacher I did.
I am just working on building my clintel and want to be more sociable to talk to people so they will come see me to get there hair done, because word of mouth is the best way I heard to get clients.

You could also get involved in some of the blogspots that are out there and advertise your business.

I have been doing online advertising for well over two years now. Most of my business comes from people responding to my online advertising. I have never spent a cent for it. If you do a Google search, or a search on any search engine for that matter, for Clough Quad Cities you will see what I mean.

It could work for you also. If you see how I have worded my ads, you will know how to word yours. I get more results from my online ads then I do from the Yellow Pages. Although, I still have Yellow Page ads, because some people still do not have a computer and the Yellow Pages, for some people, is going to be the first place that they look.

This site that we are on right now gets excellent coverage on the Internet. Some sites don't. You have to go to the sites themselves to find what you are looking for. Even though this site is not to be used for advertising, as an example of how easy and powerful it is to advertise on the Internet, my typing in right now, Piano Tuning Quad Cities, in a few days should be showing up in searches on the first couple of pages of a search if people use those words. Mind you, I haven't really just now used this place for advertising because I haven't included any contact information.

Please keep in mind when advertising on the Internet, that people aren't going to be looking for your name or the name of your business for your service. They are going to be looking for what you do and where you are.

I don't know where you live, but I'll pretend that you live in Rock Island, IL. You could title an ad like this in order to draw people to your ad. Band Instrument Repair, Rock Island, IL. Musical Instruments in Rock Island, IL. Music Repair Shops, Rock Island, IL. Etc.

Don't be afraid to put any personal contact information on the Internet. People need your email address, phone number and physical address. I have never had any problems with this. You will get bogus responses from time to time. But, they are harmless. Just never respond to them. Most of the time they are just looking to make sure that your email address is legit so that they can spam you with something else.

Just so I am clear, when you say that you are a cosmetologist, does that mean that you are licensed to be a cosmetologist? I ask that, because I'm not sure if every place would require you to have a license. If you are licensed, then that can be a plus for advertising and also when speaking with people about what you do.

Since you are working out of a salon with other people, how is the salon advertised?

You appear to not be online here right now. What I am getting at by asking you certain questions, is to give you ideas as to how and what you can say to people in order to build your business in order to answer your original question better. I don't know how much you can advertise or say to potential clients because I don't know if you are employed by the owner of the salon, or if you rent your own chair. It would be helpful to know those things.

If you are self-employed, then you should be free to advertise on your own and say what you want to potential clients in order to build your business. If you are employed by the owner of the salon, then that can limit what you do as far as advertising and what you say to people.
