Hi,

New to the forum. I live in Tampa, FL. We are renovating the kitchen in our 5 year old tract house. The current configuration has two plumbing drops (waste + hot/cold water) in two separate islands. One services a large sink, disposal, and dishwasher, the other, a small sink with no disposal.

We are installing a single large island to replace the two smaller ones. There will be only one sink.

Here's the question: Do you have to drain a dishwasher into a sink/disposal? Both drops are vented with a device labeled 'Sure-Vent II". I'm guessing this is an AAV. What we want is to have the sink and disposal on one plumbing drop and the dishwasher on the other.

Hope this makes sense.

Greetings from Sarssota,

You may install the dish washer on the unused trap if you wish,( and it MUST be trapped). You will have to run a high loop or a air-gap on the discharge hose and make a permanent connection to the trap raiser with a comptression fitting. If the old set up had the DW discharging into the disposal you will have to cap off the inlet located on the side of the disposal housing. Good luck, Tom

Thanks for the speedy response. I will be re-doing the PVC connections as the contractor's work on the original install could be most charitably described as "untidy". I'll be sure to follow your guidance.

Sarasota is a very cool city. We get there as often as possible.
