My house was built in 2005 and recently there is a strange gurgling/draining noise coming from the tub drains in 3 out of the 4 baths in my home when the toilets are flushed, also it seems that the separate shower in the master bath drains kind of slow. Could this be a Possible vent or drain issue? Note: No sewer gas smell detected!

Gurgles indicate a vent problem while bubbles indicate a drainage problem. Sounds like you have some vents that are clogged. Is there only one vent pipe coming out of your roof or do you have m ore then just one?

Looking at the roof I see more than one vent pipe!

This "strange gurgling/draining noise", did it just start or has it been on going? Sure sounds like a the bathtubs are venting through the traps. This indicates clogged vents or a faulty plumbing design. Regards, Tom

Hey Tom, The noise started about 4 weeks ago or so. The noise happens every time we flush the toilets we hear the gurgling/draining noise coming out of the tub drains, so you are saying this could mean the toilets are venting through the tub traps? How can I be for certain? And If so how do I unclog the plugged vent/vents and should I check all the vents in the house, and is it something that as a homeowner I can handle myself or should I call in for reinforcements and call the plumber? It all depends on if you want to climb up on the roof and snake the lavatory vent in the bathroom that has the talking bathtub trap. That's the vent I'd check and snake first. Good luck, Tom

If I attempt this myself how far should I snake the vent? Do I need to go all the way to the main cleanout, or just past the trap?

When you snake a roof vent you will bypass the trap. Put out enough cable to reach the base and about 20 feet more to clear the branch. Good luck, tom
