This is my first time that I have used a site like this. I am very confused and would be very grateful if anybody could answer my question.
The question is,
I will be going to pakistan soon to get married and normally you would go for about 6 to 8 weeks and come back to the UK. Then as normal you would get your paperwork and your husband/wife would be in the UK within 7 or 8 months. I recently heard that their were new changes made to the way you apply. One thing I heard was you had to stay in pakistan with you husband/wife for 5 years before you could come back to the UK and apply for their visa. Then I heard you had to stay for 6 months with your husband/wife before you could apply.
I am so confused!! Please if anyone knows anything about this let me know asap

THANK YOU

Hi Shasy,

I have not before heard of a rule that states that you must live with your spouse in their home country before you can apply for a visa.

The only situation where that applies is that if you have lived/married with your spouse for at least 4 years in another country where the marriage is recgonized, when the bristish citizen applies for a visa for the other non-britsh spouse, then rather than after two years, they get indefinate leave to remain after only 6 months.

You can marry your fiance(e) and hand in the paperwork while you are there, or you can come back and then send all the papers (bills, employment details, statements etc) from here to your husband/wife and they then hand it in to their local British Embassy..

Hope that helps!
