I am on SSI disability and haven't worked in 4 years, I just won my judgement this year and I was wondering if I have to pay taxes for the income I receive. I pay rent and my power bill plus my medicine as well and I have a daughter that lives with me. Do I or can I claim her without working? Can I file taxes while claiming and receiving SSI each month?

I was always told you can not unless you are working too then you can file for your work income and earned income credit for dependents. Everybody I know that is on SS disability says they are allowed to make approximately $600. A month.

I asked for years if I had to pay on taxes on my sons disability and only got a run around cause none of the free tax places knew.

Most of the time, Social Security Disability is NOT taxable.

It can become taxable if you have other taxable income in addition to the SS Disability.

If SS Disability is your ONLY source of income, then it will not be taxable in future years.

For THIS year, because you got all of the money in 2007, you will probably have to pay some taxes.
