A few years ago I researched this painting for a friend and found an example of a similar painting with the same signature. I have changed computers and have yet to locate any information on the artist. I just can't remember the first name of the artist I matched signatures with. I research so many paintings I just don't keep good records of old searches of paintings I don't keep or sell. I thought it was Jules but the more I remember the artist was a known artist with decent auction records in the $5-7K range. I do feel stupid on this one but am not ashamed to ask for help...

Hello, yaterbob!

I have searched on the Internet for information about the artist. Have still not come up with anything. That doesn't mean that it's not out there on the Internet, though. Just might be really hard to find. Have you tried researching things at a public library or maybe even a public art gallery? Is this a painting that you own?

Clough; thank you for giving it a try. I think I may be on to a strong lead. I found a similar style of work by Ludwig Eibl who studied Painting and engraving with Johann Leonhard Raab. The work is very much like mine, I found a few etchings by Raab but as yet no images with signature to see if it is the same Leonhard. Thanks again. Robert Azensky-Robert's fine

I'm reposting my images to this question due to an addressing issue with my folders on my web site.

Well I am back!! I re-researched my past research and came up with the follow up to my lead about Ludwig Eible. He studied under Johanne Leonhard Raab a wel known etcher and painter. Eible's work is very much like the painting I have. But of course there are a lot of Johan/Johanne/Johannes leonhard artists from the period. I am interested in seeing Johanne Leonhartd Raab Oils to compare. Thanks again. Robert

Well I think the mystery either deepens or is solved; I had seen paintings by Johannes Leonhard that were full landscapes but wasn't sure if they matched. Now I have thought this over and looked again, I may have overlooked the best match. Johannes Leonhard 1858-1913 could be my missing artist but not quite sure yet!
