View Full Version : How do I lighten my dark dark "brown" dyed hair?

I have had my hair dyed 2 times before, and I tried to go for a lighter brown then my natural colour (medium brown) and each time it turned orange after a couple of weeks. Last night I went to get my hair dyed again, and I wanted a darker brown, so my hair would not turn orange. When my hair was being dyed it looked black, but since I'm no profesionall I didn't mention anything or complain. Now my hair looks black, and very odd against my skin and eyebrow colour.

I am not happy at all, and was wondering how I can lighten my hair to a chocolate or ash brown?

Thanks.

Dark hair contains a lot of red pigments in it. So if you apply a lighter hair color on dark hair, it will turn a red/orange color. When you dye your hair over and over, the more porous it becomes. Porous hair tends to absorb hair coloring products, making the color appear even darker. You can try using your selected hair color with a 20-volume peroxide developer in equal parts to lift the color a couple shades. But remember that it could end up an unpleasant color. If possible, go to a salon and get it fixed.
