Good Morning,

We live in Fayetteville, NC and it's starting to get cold. General Electric Gas Pack model number BLD055E936B1 manufactured in the early eighties has decided to quit. It is a forced air model with a standing pilot. Pilot works great... but the main burners won't light. This has been like this for a month (we've been using space heaters). Spouse says it worked one day and then not. We replaced the thermostat with a more advanced one from LUX model number CLG1500. Wife states the a/c worked last week when she tested it. Now the a/c won't come on too. What a conundrum. Any ideas? I have the feeling it may be something simple. House is under contract to be sold I can't get by with space heaters anymore. I'm technically inclined so any help is most appreciated. Thank you so much!

If the house is to be sold why are you messing with it to start with. Get it fixed correctly or it will come back to haunt you on the inspection end of the contract. This way you have paper work to back up that the system works OK.

If the system suddenly won't do anything, you may have lost he control voltage. I would start by looking for a fuse. If the power on light has disappeared, it is a likely cause. For newer systems there are helpful pictures and the sequence of operations in the sticky at https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/heating-air-conditioning/heating-cooling-maintenance-repair-troubleshooting-frequently-asked-questions-58313.html

The sticky is a fine piece of work by a top professional. It is all many people need to find and fix many problems.
