Better help on the way beyond my help (very little), have you tried to get it into safe mode prior to it freezing up, has any hardware or software be added recently? Have you cleaned the dust out of it, have you tried to pull out the cards and RAM, clean them up and reinstall everything to see if that helps.

Hi you know it will freez right on the bios splash screen where it say ami bios. In black screen with the bios and motherboard name. My motherboard is an asus. I have not changed anything in my PC. But windows vista was giving me problems. It said that the serial was not valid and I had like 30 days to reinstall. After that I tried to reinstall it but it did not work right. So I then wanted to instwindows Xp. When I was installing xp its when I froze. At the restart. I thougt it was the hard drive but Im no sure. I don't know if all the drivers and windows are loaded by that time. Well thanks.

Did you uninstall Vista first? Can you put the hard drive in another computer as a slave, retrieve all your important stuff and reformat and start from scratch?

I didn't uninstall vista as it was the only OS. But when I installed windows XP it asked if I wanted to format my hard drive. I chose yes.

Im confused because It won't even boot from a Bood CD like windows. It freezes before it can get to that. Maybe there's something wrong with the BIOS. But thanks.

Hi I just found out it the hard drive. I replaced it and it didn't freeze. I tried removing the ram and trying a stick at a time and didn't work. I also cleard the cmos, but no help. So I just removed the cables from the hard drive and plugged them into another and it worked. I had said that I did not think it was the hard drive, because it froze in the Bios screen not when things were loaded. Well thanks for you help anyway and for stopping to read my problem.

Do you feel that this part of your problems started when a second OS was installed on the HD??

Not really, when I was running vista it felt like different but I blamed it on vista. Then I reinstalled vista and it wasn't right, that's why I tried to dual boot. And this didn't work so then I just tried to install Xp and that's when it fail completely.

I had this exact problem. Take the ram out of your mobo. And switch sides.. and makes sure you place them in properly.. if this continues to happen, I suggest to formatt your hard drive.. if still freezes.. your hardware may be faulty .
