I put down a solid wood (3/8) maple floor about a year ago (after hurricane Katrina). In the same room that the floors were installed, we later found that we had an unrepaired fireplace that allowed water to get under the wood floor, causing speed bumps in the room. We are now in the process of trying to remove the floor, with no luck. The floor is installed on a slab, using urethane glue. I took the advice of another floor guy who advised me to cut up the floor with a circular saw and to rent the demolition hammer from home depot. Didn't work!! The parts of the floor where the speed bumps were came up easily as did some of the surrounding area. Beyond that, my wife and I are at our wits end. We even tried to wet the floor, thinking that since this caused the problem in the first place, do it again, and that didn't work either. I was told that a lot of the retail adhesive removers don't work that great, especially with the wood floor still in place. Can ANYONE give any suggestions on how to get the wood flooring up?? :confused:

Any solvents that will "melt" the glue would be to hazardous to use for the amount of area you have to do. You might try renting a drum sander with 10 grit paper. That should take down the wood plenty quick. BTW, you should never apply wood flooring directly to concrete that is at or below grade.

Ide try scrapping it up with a tool like what the roofers use to remove the shingles from the roof something with a long handle and a strong straight edge Kind of like a ice scraper for side walks.
