On Nov.10 I took my dog hiking in Jamez Falls. He saw a squirrel, pulled the leash from
My hand, chased the squirrel and fell over about a 50 foot cliff. He broke both front wrists
And an outter toe on his back leg which the doctor amputated saying it would heal much
Faster. He had trauma to the lungs, heart, and liver but tests show those injuries have cleared up. He is now eating from a bowl but doesn't want to drink water, he turns his
Head as though he's afraid of it. I put plastic over his bandaged legs, so as not to get them wet, and he will drink SOME water if I pour it onto the plastic. When he fell he was
About 10 feet from the falls.

Thank you for any info you can provide.

He needs his water. Call the vet and see what the vet suggests. Try raising the water dish. He may hurt every time he moves. Perhaps food is worth the hurt. You could even try adding water to his food. His teeth and jaws need crunching dry chow, but for now, it is more important to get water into him.

I would be slow to force water into to him. If you do so, be slow and gentle. The last thing he needs right now is a lung full of water.

I hope as he heals, he will start drinking normally again before long.

If labman's suggestions don't seem to get him to drink (mixing his chow with water should do the trick) and the vet doesn't have any other solutions, as a last resort, you might want to try some clear chicken or beef broth, the low fat/low sodium kind that you can find in any grocery store, and add it to his chow. I don't recommend this as a standard diet but as labman states, he needs to get water into him. If the water in his chow doesn't tempt him, the broth should.
