Several UK sites explain Ring Main.

Ring main power circuit - home electrics and wiring | Diy Fix It (http://www.diyfixit.co.uk/diy/electrics/power_circuit/power_circuit_1.html)

ASTA BEAB News Release (http://www.astabeab.co.uk/live/NewsRel30.asp)

Your questions I am sure related to details and codes that will not be found other than the Standards found listed here:

Electrical wiring (UK - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_wiring_(UK))

Even thou the NEC here in the US has been designed to be used internationally, it may be used as a guide, and each country will have it's own requirements, and terminology, nuances.

Hope this helps to get you started.

If your in design, you should purchase a copy of the applicable standards, as I am sure you will need to learn them inside and out.
