Honda has many styles of Distributors, I have not noticed this type of change ONLY, usually folks doing upgrades are doing much more work such as the engine harness change and other modifications. Lets see if anyone else gives advise then I will link you to a popular Honda site where the do mods all the time but you will be required to do your homework before you ask for help, the answer may already be in the archives.
As a minimum you will have to rewire the distributor, the internal coil dizzy may have all three timing pickups inside the dizzy, the TDC sensor, the CID sensor and the RPM sensor, there are a couple different names but they do the same job, your external coil dizzy may have timing sensors elsewhere such as behind the camshaft gear and in the dizzy so having an understanding of what you are getting into is crucial.
It is more popular to take the coil out of the dizzy and installing a race style external coil setup with distributor cap designed for external coil usage, one that has 5 connections for spark plug & coil wires.
