I am new to this site. My CD drive quit working some time ago. It is listed in my computer, but does not acknowledge that there is a CD inside. The only disc my computer will recognize is the restore dvd (which I have already tried & it did not help the problem). I've even uninstalled the driver, restarted the computer, it automatically reinstalled, but it still does not work. I have an emachine with windows xp. I saw some mention about bios and things like that, but I don't understand all of that technical stuff. Help!!

Hi there, I am new to the site too :).

Sounds a bit weird to me. Have you instaled any new hardware or a new power supply? Also, you don't need drivers for cd drives so what excatly are you installing? Have you tried a lens cleaner? Also, you drive could not be set to the right jumper setting, set it to master! :D

Hope this helps.

He does not know how to set it to master and neither do I to help out at this point but I do know a piece of software that may help so download.com this and see if it works, Damn, I just turned around behind me to get it and its gone, sorry, I am moving right now and its already packed away. Its something like CDBurnXPPro, do a search at download.com or CDBurnerXPPro??
