Dear Expert,

I'm trying to conceive and I have always had a regular 28 day menstrual cycle. My actual due date for my period is today and I have not got it till now. Two days before I tested for pregnancy with First Response hpt stick and it showed positive, and I checked it again today since I have not yet got my periods and this time again it showed a positive result with the test line being much more thicker than before. But my mom told me that we can say anything about pregnancy for sure only after at least 15 days after our missed period. I became very disappointed after hearing this :( Is this true? Can HCG be present so strongly even in non-pregnant ladies? And can I arrange for a doctor's appointment right away or should I wait for some more days? Thanks beforehand for your kind reply...

Chances are you are pregnant. There are only a couple things that cause a false positive and you would be very ill if you had any of these.

Now, there are only 3 things that can actually tell you 100% if you are pregnant. Those are:

1) Ultrasound
2) Fetal movements felt by the doctor or nurse
And
3) Fetal heartbeat heard by doppler.

Now, if you have had 2 positive pregnancy tests, chances are you ARE pregnant!!

One more thing... It is the fertilized ovum that produces hCG, it does not occur typically without pregnancy.
