Hi,

I have been in my house just a few months. The previous owners had a very high tech track light over the kitchen island that had a slight buzzing sound and not very good light (plus, I just didn't really like it).

Just today I just had a relative install a replacement chandelier. Guess what - it buzzes and the bulbs are dim. The buzz is a faint hum, sort of like static.

I know my relative checked all of the wires in the ceiling for a... hidden dimmer function? (sorry, obviously I know nothing).

What else could this be? The previous owner was an electrician so he may have done some sophisticated things.

Do you have a volt meter? You need to check the voltage on the two wires going to the light.

Until I read your last statement, I assumed something was wired incorrectly. However it is possible he has a dimmer mounted somewhere you have not found (it would be a three way circuit) or a special circuit for low voltage lighting.

If you have no Home lighting control system. I would look inside Light fixture box for a Module, then chech where it is switched from. If nothing verify 120 to switch and out of switch, then to light. Measure between hot and ground, and hot and neutral,

Thanks both, I'll look into this (or will have my relative when he wakes up!); this is not fluorescent. The fixture we removed was a light waves flex kit, so it's possible - well, I have no idea, I was going to say maybe it was too bright and they needed to tone it down, but I can't figure out the dull buzzing. The buzzing is coming from the lamps, which is a normal occurrence with many dimmers and incandescent light bulbs. Sometimes changing the dimmer to a better grade, as well as the lamps, will eliminate the buzzing.
