I'm looking for the title of a movie and all I can remember is this one scene. It was at the north pole, or the artic, it was some type of war movie I think, but I knokw this scene had these guys with guns who were pretty much left unprotected except for these big tubes or cylinders. One of them had a plan that if they strategically placed the tubes so that the combination of each man's view would give the group of t hem complete field of vision of the approaching enemy. So they each laid inside their tube and if one of the enemy came into their field of vision... what they could see through the pipe or tube... he had to knock out that enemy guy or else the enemy guy would take out one of them.

I often think of this movie, though I don't remember what it was, when I think of teams working together and how each person has their "thing" they have to take care of and the group has to rely on each man to do their part in order for the group to survive.

Does this spark any recollection anyone?

I believe you are thinking of "Ice Station Zebra."

That title, Ice Station Zebra, came to my mind, but when I looked at whatever synopisis of it I could find on the web I didn't find any mention of this scene.. maybe it was such a small part in the movie. Anyway, I think I will go rent it. Thanks for the answer!

You are welcome... I am not positive... however probably 90% sure. I remember this scene in the movie. And again if I am not mistaken I believe it was either Rock Hudson or Kurt Russell (Goldie Hawn's other?).

Anyway after you rent the movie I would ask that you please come back and let me know. I enjoyed the movie.

Also, I think the story was based in Alaska (lots of snow), and US troops arrived at a station where the inhabitants already had some trouble. The Russians were coming and way outnumbered the US troops. I liked the movie... let me know.

At my age, I will be very proud of myself if I am correct... ha ha

Happy Thanksgiving

EDIT: These "tubes" were actually large gas or oil pipes.

Stringer,
Well, I've been to (almost) every video store around and no one has it... so I joined Netflix.. they had it and it's on it's way here. I should get it Monday and will watch it probably next weekend. And you are right.. the tubes were actually pipes.. now that you mention it I do remember that. And Rock Hudson was the star and there were Russians in it... so you know.. I'm bettin' that you are right, but we'll know soon. Thanks again! I will write after I see it.

I think the movie was called World War 111 and starred David Soul. It was, I am sure, not Ice Station zebra

Gee, that proves my memory needs a "class" in "remembering" ha.

I was pretty sure, now I will have to go get Ice Station Zebra and look at it again I guess and then go get World War 111... thanks, tried.

That's verified... I watched Ice Station Zebra last night... and it was definitely not it.. gosh, it was so hard to stay tuned into that movie, the belivability level was so low and the special effects so, well, old that it was difficult to pay attention to. Something about that, watching a movie you saw years ago and coming away with a very different attitude about it... sigh. I'll go check out the other one next.
