What class, if it is for a class, are you supposed to be making a collage for?

Clough

Thank you for responding to my private message to you! Let's continue here, okay? :)

OK, well its for an art class, and there are no rules, just to make a collage (which now I know how to spell haha)

Clough
Nov 21, 2007, 05:26 PM
Thanks! Do you know what a collage is at all?

Also, what grade are you in? Knowing that will help in answering your question because it will give us more of an idea of the things that you might like, and you might want to add some things to your collage about the things that you like.

Yeah I've done a few collages, oh and I'm a freshman (:

Clough

Thanks! That help a lot!

What are some things that interest you? Like maybe sports, music, art, cars, pets, friends, etc.

What about using three-dimensional objects in your collage?

soccerstarxx
Nov 21, 2007, 05:39 PM
Hmm, I play soccer, I love dogs and have one <3, I love any kind of music, I like drawing on my spare timee.

I wanted this collage to give a message, you know make people think, oh and it could also be a bunch of pictures making one big picture. :D

I would hope that would be a possibility.

Wondergirl

What resources do you have for pictures and text? -- magazines, newspapers, photos?

Do you have a color printer? A scanner?

Is there something you want to say about soccer? About dogs? About music?

soccerstarxx

I can use anything, magazines, newspaper, photos, online images, even three-dimensional objects! : )

Will your collage be displayed somewhere along with others like on shelves or tables? That might make a difference as to how big it can be. How big can it be?

Our teacher told us about a size of a poster board :x

How about a collage that's about all of the things that you mention? It could be a collage about you! :)

Clough

Hmmm... There can be a lot of poster board sizes. Do you know the inches?

Wondergirl
Nov 21, 2007, 05:50 PM
Will it be hung up on a wall or displayed flat?

When is it due?

Wondergirl
Nov 21, 2007, 05:52 PM
The kind sold at drugstores probably, Clough. 1.5x3?

soccerstarxx
Nov 21, 2007, 05:52 PM
Yeah that's a good idea, and I guess it won't be hard since its about me :P lol, I could put personal pictures like of family, and moments with friends, you think?

Wondergirl
Nov 21, 2007, 05:53 PM
A hot topic right now is dogfighting and dog abuse. That could be a theme.

soccerstarxx
Nov 21, 2007, 05:59 PM
I don't think it will be hung, I'm not sure I guess it depends on how well it is, its due in about a week, and I'm not sure the poster board size, but I guess it can be any size.

That would be the easiest route to go. But, since you did mention that you wanted it to have a message and make people think, how about what Wondergirl suggested, something about dog fighting and dog abuse?

Look at some of the collages in the link I posted. It's amazing what you can do with pieces of paper!

[Edit] (Is what you wrote above in reference to what I just wrote below? Sorry if I just repeated a question.)

So, what did you think of the dog idea? Doing something like that would be challenging, make you look good to your teacher and also make people think because of the subject matter.

If you're going to go with dogfighting and dog abuse, first brainstorm words and ideas that are related --

Michael Vick
Pit bulls
Unconditional love
Rescue
Cages

List more.

My brother also told me it could be a collage of the problems our world is facing, like war, homeless people, things going on in africa, people living with difficulties. And the collage could be a message of how our world needs change. That's what he suggested. What do you guys think?

Clough

Here is a search that will give you more ideas as far as words to use.

I think that now you're cracking (thinking) and the inspirational fluids are flowing! Good work! :D

It would be best to pick out a subject where you can get the most variety of visuals to use for your collage.

Wondergirl

And trying to say too much won't focus your work. Your collage will be all over the map and sort of wild. I suggest you stick to one specific theme like the dog abuse one or lack of empathy for the disabled. Your teacher would prefer that. Anyone can slap and glue any kinds of pictures etc. on a poster board and call it "Problems our world is facing."

Ha, I knew having a brother would come in handy some day :P : )

Well, you think I should do it on that?

What turns YOU on for a collage subject?? YOU have to be on fire about it.

Clough

ha, i knew having a brother would come in handy some day :P : )

There is some time yet to work on this.

It really does need to be your choice as far as the subject is concerned.

How about you putting together a list here in a column of the subjects that have been mentioned so far in this thread? That would help us to help you to decide on the subject. We could go through the list one by one and eliminate the ones that wouldn't be the best for your collage. What do you think? :)

soccerstarxx
Nov 21, 2007, 06:58 PM
Well

1. me, my interests etc.
2. dog fighting and dog abuse
3. empathy for the disabled
4. homeless people
5. war

Clough
Nov 21, 2007, 07:07 PM
Thank you for making a list.

In my opinion, a collage about you would certainly be the easiest to do. However, I think that it would be the least impressive as far as how much work you had to do on it. So, I would eliminate it.

Dog fighting and dog abuse could be separated, are really two related subjects. Empathy for the disabled could be more specific, such as wheelchair etiquette. Homeless people is a huge subject, so knock that into smaller groups, such as homeless children or homeless vets. War is also huge. What could more specific themes be?

Clough

What do you think about the dog fighting and dog abuse subject? Is it something that really "trips your trigger" as far as being a subject?

soccerstarxx
Nov 21, 2007, 07:21 PM
Well I definitely don't like dog fighting, its definitely something that ticks me off when I see on t.v >:/

Clough
Nov 21, 2007, 07:26 PM
well i definetly dont like dog fighting, its definetly something that ticks me off when i see on t.v >:/

Okay then. Let's retain that subject as a possibility for you.

Empathy for the disabled. Not quite sure what you mean by that. Could you make it more specific? I know that is kind of a tough thing to do. Just looking for your thoughts on that so that we can help you to decide to keep it or not.

Okay then. Sounds like something you should eliminate due to lack of interest in the subject. Correct?
