Hi, I'm not sure I've come to the right place but I was hoping that one of you guys would be able to help me. I've read a couple of the other posts and the responses all seemed helpful but I need help with a specific problem.
I'm an 18 year old student, and since the age of 12 I have felt fear about dying and the possibility of not existing. It may also sound odd but an image of the universe ending is one that I find very difficult to cope with...
I'm aware of how death is one of lifes events that we can guarantee and in many cases is needed by people. And the really odd thing is that during the day when I'm leading my ordinary life, I haven't feared death since I was 14. The problem comes at night at that moment when I switch off the lights and lay back... instantly thoughts keep popping up that really scare me. I've now got so that I dread switching everything off, and will now purposefully leave the TV on to make sure I'm distracted.
The thing is I thought I had come to terms with death and really do not worry about it anymore, but every single night I get scared. Please if anyone has any advice I would gladly appreciate it as I'm desperate to get a good nights sleep without the TV on!!
Thank you.

I have learned that my fears have been unfounded. All the things Ive stayed up worrying about, with the light on, have never happened, I'm not dead, I'm still alive and all the things I dreamed up in my head have never happened. Slowly, I am coming to accept that my fear and anxiety were overtaking my sense of reason which were present in the day and disappeared at night. Darkness can bring fear and anxiety.
You might like to try:
A small, very dim night light that plugs into the outlet.
Having a cat or small dog to curl up with at night.
Talking through any irrational thoughts with a family member or even yourself. Saying your fears and concerns out loud might help you to fear them less.
I hope you find some comfort at night.

Hi, I'm not sure I've come to the right place but I was hoping that one of you guys would be able to help me.
Warm greetings to you. Please know that you are not alone in that feeling. There are many, across the world, who feel as you do being afraid of "death". I want for you to know, first of all, the word "death" or "dying" is only a term used by those who do not really understand the process of life itself. They generally feel that once you reach your appointed time, you cease to live and everything fades to black. But that is not so as research and many across the globe who have had NDEs (Near Death Experiences) say. Therefore, it is important to understand the actual process of what happens at the time of one's passing. The physical body is connected to the spiritual body by a silver cord that is not seen since that cord is in the etheric (spiritual) body. At the time of one's transition (passing) the cord disconnects permanently and what happens next is that the person finds themselves looking down at their motionless body but they are still very much Alive and feeling better than ever!
The spiritual body, or your spirit, is capable of retaining your personality and memories after the transition. Therefore, you have two very essential elements with which to continue life, but in another form. Spirit vibrates at a much higher rate than the physical body. That is why we can not readily see those in spirit. They, in turn, can see us as they can lower their vibrations to meet ours.
The important thing to realize is that there is no "death"! Younger people seem to have that fear but it is unfounded. Once they realize that the process of one's transition is painless and it is the actual moving from one life form to another but that you continue to LIVE, it gives them a great degree of comfort. If you have ever picked up a book and read about NDEs and people who had "died" on the operating table, for example, and then were returned to their body, you will further understand what they saw and why they no longer feared "dying". Some even welcomed returning to Heaven, the place they saw such beauty with Love and much Light during their brief time when they were considered clinically "dead". Many did not want to return to their physical body.
Fear of darkness is also quite common among some people. Basically, where there is no Light, there is total darkness. Darkness can be overcome with the Light. Therefore, it may be good to keep a night light or little lamp on during your sleeping hours as many people do, so that you will not find yourself in a completely darkened room. Know, however, that it is only your fears and that in reality, especially when you pray before going to bed, you will have an extra layer of protection around you. If you are a religious person you might want to have The Holy Bible near your bed or a rosary that has been blessed. It Is Time To Face Your Fears! Make a commitment to absolve yourself from the unfounded fear of darkness and "death" since both are blown up to be much more than they really are. Know that you are SAFE and with God by your side, what have you to fear!

ifellover,
You are not alone in sleeping with dim lights on.
I do it too and it is not in fear of death or anything else, I just do not like the dark.
And to tell you the truth,I do not think it is wrong to want to have light around us in the dark.
But then as you said your fear of death is making you uncomfortable and uneasy enough to want to have a distraction in order to not deal with those thoughts.
Maybe instead of ignoring your fear, you should look into what is beyond death according to different beliefs and thoughts of people.
There are some who believe that death is the end of existence while others believe that death is only a stage,a passing,a wait...
