I moved to Ontario 2 years ago from Alberta. Today on my way to work I was pulled over by the police, they questioned me as the car is registered to my wife. After checking my info they let me go, but said I was pulled over as my wife had an outstanding warrant in Alberta.

I was absolutely SHOCKED.

I asked her what was going on, and found out amid pouring tears that when we were having a very difficult time out west, that she stole $2000 from her employer, to make ends meet with kids needs and mortgage (we were on the verge of foreclosure), and was fired.
(since paid back)

We are good people, and make good money, just don't manage it well.

She was fired 2 1/2 years ago, we have been over the boarder numerous times since with no problems, how come it took this long for a warrant?

What should we do, I have 2 young kids and I am very scared.

She has never been trouble at all, I feel like this is a bad dream. :(

Many times one jurisdiction won't have the others info until court records are posted or updated.

That takes some time, I'm sure. I had a similar situation with a traffic ticket that floated for eleven years before I found out about it.

But if they knew about the warrant, why wouldn't they just go to the address of record and knock on the door? You may want find a lawyer.

She has a letter from the employer stating restitution has been made..

She would be better off turning herself in. With the letter from the employer its possible the warrant should have been dropped.

They may not have confirmed a current address. And they aren't required to be generous or cooperative. Your lawyer could answer this.

If they didn't, who pressed charges? Did she only fulfill that portion of an agreement? Did she confer with anyone on this?

If she is facing charges, they may show up where ever and whenever manpower deems them available.
Remanding oneself into custody may be seen in her favor.
