Hi, I was trying to upgrade my ram on my computer, I pulled the current ram out to see what brand it was, I had reinstalled the ram the wrong way, and didn't pay attention to it. Then silly me turned the power on, I could smell something burning, but couldn't see any smoke, but when I checked the ram it looked OK, I plugged it in the correct way, but now my monitor shows NO SIGNAL.

Does anybody have any suggestions, would it be possible that I have fried the RAM and should I buy another one or is there a way I can check this ram to see if it is OK

Regards

Most memory modules have a notch to prevent them being inserted the wrong way. So you probably had to force them. While I don't know if your RAM was fried, its possible your video adapter or motherboard was fried. Time to take it to a tech who can bench test it.

Thank you to everybody that replied, Just got the computer bench tested and it's not the ram but the motherboard.

This was a expensive little exercise

Thanks again

Christ :)
