I sent a resident to the hospital and was concerned about the resident and I have access to the patient records with my computer so I looked up his lab and doctors note to better care for the resident when he returned to our facility.The computer is safe and the hospital gave me ability to use this with a password. I shared this info with no one else Did I violate hippa

This is borderline. I think, that as long as you were simply following up on patient care and did not pass the info along you are OK. Especially if you were given permission to access those records.
