Im a 16 year old male and for the past nine months I have been getting really bad headaches. I have visited my doctor two times about this and he eventually referred me to see a consultant. The consultant told me it was not a brain tumor but is probably caused my tension sometimes though it feels like thiers fluid in my head or even pressure on the skull my back and neck sometimes ache too how does the doctor know this he hasn't even given me a brains can or taken any blood he just gave me a physical examination.

thesnakedotcom,

I'm no expert but maybe I can offer a little comfort till one comes along. Your doctor would have taken your temperature and blood pressure and he can tell quite a bit from that. It could me tension and worry. But if you have not been reassured by the doctor's explanation, go back and see your own doctor and explain that it isn't any better. May I suggest, if it does turn out to be tension and worry, that you try some relaxation and meditation. Meditation doesn't have to be complicated. There are lots of books on modern day relaxation and meditation. I hope that helped a little. Let me know how you are getting on. :)

A neurologist with some expertise is the best to diagnose headaches. What's important for you is to see if you can identify triggers. One trigger that's potentially difficult to identify is weather. In this case, the headaches occur 0-48 hours before the rain starts.

Food triggers are easy, because they occur afterwards. There are some foods which are more likely to cause headaches than others. Red wine, aged cheeses, neutrasweet and MSG come to mind.

Exertion headaches are easy to identify too.

What the headaches feel like and what you do to help them also help. Take a look at National Headache Foundation: Select (http://www.headaches.org) and achenet.com (http://www.achenet.com) for some resources.

While it is important to rule out tumors and aneuyrisms they are not in the mainstream.
Continuous headaches that won't go away MUST be looked at immediately.

Useful answer however the consultant ruled out the possibity of a tumor when I first went to see him at the hospital

The headaches you describe definitely sound like tension headaches. You are also at an age where your hormones are all screwed up, so this can increase your headaches. You do need to try to find ways of dealing with your stress - physical activity and talking about your problems is the best way.

Some things you can do for a tension headache are
Soak in a hot tub with relaxing oil like lavender
Cut out caffeine and sugar
Have a regular bedtime

Get a second opinion preferably from a neurologist
