Good day. I've got a Trane XL 1200 outside heat pump unit that keeps freezing up solid. I metered acrossed the Swithover Valve Coil and it read fairly low ohms (15ohms). While testing different things, I noticed the Outdoor Temperature Sensor (ODS) read approximately 18.4K Ohms at an outside temperature of about 52 degree. This seemed OK compared to the graph. I tested acrossed the leads of the Coil Bottom Sensor (CBS) and did not get a resistance reading. It appears to be open. The CBS is mounted directly to the tube. Is this coil sensor bad? Is there a way that I can eliminate the defrost control? The Trane part# for the Sensor Assembly is SEN0347. Where can I get one of these sensors and will I have to purchase the sensor that is pre-attached to the tube? Your help and attention to his matter will be greatly appreciated.

No you cannot eliminate the defrost control unless you just want to run the unit as a A/C unit and not a HP.

Before I would start tossing money around I would stop in to a local Trane dealer to get there take on your situation. I am sure they will talk to you since you will be buying your parts from them.

Trane parts can be hard to come by unless you are a Trane dealer. Also there will be no warranty on electrical/electronic parts since you are not a dealer or registered service person. I only mention this because just the other day I stopped by a Carrier supply house and the homeowner at the counter was a lillte mad because they would not sell him a part they also told him that even if he could get a part they would not warenty it since he was not a dealer.

Many other brands of units (Goodman for one) will sell units and parts to anyone.

If you want to roll the dice go here for a list of Trane parts company. Just put in your state.
