View Full Version : Civic EX Will Not Immediately Start when shut off

My 1995 Honda Civic EX will not immediately start when shut off after running for a while. After about A 1/2 hour wait, it starts. When it does start, there's a cloud of smoke and the strong odor of fuel and I have to pump the gas to make sure it stays started. Runs fine thereafter. The symptom is almost like the car is flooded when I try to start it, but I am not pumping the gas pedal until after it starts, so... I had the fuel pump tested, changed the main relay switch and it still will not immediately start after it's been driven sometimes. Please help : )

If the CEL comes on and goes off after two seconds, when the ignition key is turned to ON, and, during that two second period, the fuel pump runs, I would focus on the distributor. Have the ICM and coil tested/replaced. If the problem persists, the distributor housing may need to be replaced--internal sensors may be failing.
