I have a 13 year old Bassett hound who I took to the emergency vet last Thursday night because he was acting weird. Not excited when I got home, didn't want to do his daily after work walk, not that hungry, shivers, and was acting like he was tipsy/drunk. The Vet did an external physical and said all seems well and gave him a shot of nausea reliever. He slept well and the next day seemed a little better. So now he won't even eat at all and sleeps all day/night (I know Bassett's are lazy but not this lazy), won't eat soft food either and won't even eat his favorite treat. Oh yea, 4 weeks ago he got his teeth cleaned and they took a physical with blood testing and said he was in terrific health for his age and keep doing what your doing. Any ideas?? Thanks:(

Get back with the vet. You have a sick dog, and tempting it to eat rich food isn't going to fix the problem. 13 isn't that old for a well cared for dog. Find and fix the problem, and you may have some more good years with him.

Last Friday, I let my 14 year old Lab have a good swim in the river. I do have to admit she doesn't retrieve sticks from the river like she used to.
