Hi everyone. Here's what happened today. My wife went to use our 2 year old dryer, and nothing seemed to work. (it was working fine an hour before) I looked and the washer was not working either.
After a quick look, I saw that the breaker had popped. After resetting that, the washer began working again, but not the dryer.

I noticed the plastic covering by the bulb looked a bit dirty and after removing the cover, the bulb was quite obviously blown. I replaced the cover after taking the bulb out (I'll pick up a new bulb tomorrow) However, the dryer just won't do anything. The light inside was working fine earlier in the day so I feel whatever blew the breaker also took out the bulb.

I removed the back cover of the dryer and vacuumed out all the dust bunnies and thought maybe I would see something obvious, but alas, nothing at all just jumps out at me.

Could anyone give me any suggestions before I tear this thing apart and make a fool out of myself. I really appreciate any words of wisdom anyone can shed on this situation.

Thank you
Anthony

PS, right after writing this, Im going to see if I can check the resistance on the thermal fuse. Question though... would the thermal fuse blowing cause the breaker to pop? It's a dedicated circuit with just the washer & dryer on it.

Ok, the thermal fuse does have continuity, thus, there goes that thought. HOWEVER... just on a lark, I pulled the plug off the door switch. There were 3 wires, whute, blue and orange. Regardless of which 2 wires I check, and moving the switch back and forth, the continuity meter doesn't change.
I think this could be the source of my trouble but I go back to... why would this have tripped the circuit breaker?

Thank you again for any help you can shed on this.

Ok, after reading some other topics with similar problems, I decided to do what was already spoken of here before, and I jumped out the 3-wire door switch. Lo & behold... it now works.
The only question that remains to me is... why did it blow out the bulb and trip the 20 Amp circuit breaker. Is that some sort of fail safe involved here since, it may have broken if the light didn't go off and the dryer then went on, thereby overheating it?

Once again, any help would be greatly appreciated.
