I am 23 and I got arrested for poss. Of a narcotic around 4 years ago I am currently in school and have not picked a major or field of study but I am about to make the dean's list :)... I am so scared that all my hard work is going to be in vain. I have no clue what I should do with my life or what felons can do. I have scearched everywhere and I have not found anyone that knows any information on careers for felons in Texas so if anyone has any ideas I would really appreicate it.

Drug dealers becoming undercover cops. Criminals that teach the police how a criminal would think in a given situation to help them better profile and be a step ahead. You might be able to take criminal Justice classes and become a private investigator or under cover cop.

Wow I have never thought about that. As weird as it may seem I would love to work with the law enforcement. I used to want to go into fornsic science who knows?

There is no possible way of being a Private Investigator if you are a felon. All private investigators must be licensed, and in my state and I believe every state, the license applicant must have a clean background.

I suggest getting a degree in business and becoming an entreprenour. Work for yourself and build a business from the ground up. But remember, selling drugs is not a good business.

while it is possible to get into some levels of law enforcement, it is not that easy and often it takes a family member to help get you in, or start with a much smaller poor paying department.

I do know a few PI that have had some old convictions, but they have to be reviewed on a case by case basis normally.

This advice, given with good intentions I'm sure, is completely wrong. I'm an ex-cop and there's no such thing as convicted drug dealers getting hired to become plain clothes cops. Heh that's movies for you...

I'm in the same boat! Although, while there are a few careers that we can't have, there are quite a bit they we can.
I myself was arrested for criminal sale 3rd, but with youthful offender status and I'm in college for business admin. I have taken a wide array of classes , and decided to pursue a career as a lawyer.

There are jobs that require a moral turpitude exam, however making a one time mistake with drugs shouldn't bar us from them. Go for what you want. There's still plenty out there.
