My system crashed and so I formatted my 20g hard drive on another machine and then used tried to reinstall windows from the CD. I get this error message " A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer". I have tried to remove all the hardware mentioned but there still isn't any change. I always get stuck at the same place, any help please?

Why did the computer crash in the first place? It could be that it wasn't anything to do with your hard drive contents. It could have been faulty memory. If this is the case, you need to test this memory before re-installing the operating system. Download the following Windows Memory Diagnostic and have a blank formatted floppy disk ready!

Reboot with the memory test floppy in the drive and post back with the results.

Do you have an Upgrade CD or a full CD. If you have the Full version of XP it probably wants an unformatted drive to install to.
