I have been coloring my hair with permanent black haircolor for 17 years. I'm starting to quickly turn gray and want to strip my haircolor and start over with a lighter shade. Is this possible from home? I'm hearing horror stories about L'oreal hair color remover. I use their dye.

Black hair dye is the hardest color to remove. The pigment in dark hair dyes are very strong so it's hard to correct. Using a high lift color can make your hair a few shades lighter. But if you plan to go 3-4 shades lighter, you will need to pre-lighten your hair and then apply the desired color. I know it must be frustrating, but you shouldn't attempt to do the color process yourself because you will end up ruining your hair. Please get it professionally done.

Hi,
Could you please tell me if its bad for my hair if I use loreal colour zap. I have so much colour in my hair and now its black, I want to go back to my natural dark brown. I want to strip colour and then leave it, don't want to bleach or colour anymore.
Thankx for your time

I feel your comments are accurate, although the dilemma with my hair I am facing is similar to hers, and I cannot afford a hairdresser to remove the permanent color and color with the brown color I want to have.
