I have a 2003 craftsman lt 4000. I have a 25 hp kohler with a 48 inch deck, hydrostatic drive. I had purchased the extended warranty for 3yrs. While it was under warranty I had to have them replace my primary blade belt 2 times. I asked the repairman each time what caused it to fail and he said it was typical usage. I have right around 130 hrs on the mower and no warranty left and since have replaced the belt twice. In 4 yrs I have had to replace the secondary mower belt only once.Does anyone out there have the same problems with this belt. It is starting to get expensive.

Your belt life does seem to be a bit short but may be normal for your terrain and cutting. I have an Lt 1000 and have replaced all belts after two years.

Are you using OEM belts? They should be available at www3.sears.com.

Could be common to your area. Also, have you checked your pulleys and spindle assemblies for wobbling, or worn pulleys, or a hard to pull pulley? The deck spindle pulleys have a brake on them, so without the deck in the "engaged" position, the spindles will be hard to turn.
