To remove Media Player, go to your Control Panel, the select Add/Remove, then select the program you want removed then opt to remove it.

To Download the latest version, go to their Website and find the Download button.

If you are only going to download a newer version of Media Player, the new program will overwrite the older version and there's no need to remove anything.

Save it first, then when you want to view something on the Player, it will run.

If I may suggest doing yourself a favor and trying out VLC, a freeware audio/video player. I find its very simple to use, not a resource hog, doesn't pester you with ads or try to get you to buy something every minute and supports most formats and codecs.

.. No pretty visual screens though.

VLC should be your third viewer, WMP plays most codecs now, you can download most other codec add ons from download.com legally, but VLC will play a VCD bin/cue where WMP11 will not play in on your PC. A VCD is a movie (bin/cue format) on a CD (700mb) that will play on your home DVD player but not your PC, normally.

WMP in the skins mode in not resizable, I use Core Media Player if I want to maximize my 'minimal' space on the screen, Core does not show the controls around the edge of the screen like WMP does and you get more picture AND more windows if you are also working on other projects at the same time you want to watch a movie.

Set it up to be 'Always on Top' of the other running applications. WMP11 is my default player. I am surprised that you did not get an automatic update message taking you directly to the site, yes it will just overwrite the old version 10. Its been out for a long time, is your computer set up for automatic updates, it's a good thing 98% of the time.
