Go to a professional piercer, do not try to do it yourself. The piercer will explain anything you need to know and answer any questions you have.

Read this before you go.

Piercing your own tongue can cause bad injury if you do not know what you are doing. I do not advocate anyone piercing anything on their own body themselves, but I put the tongue piercing at the very top of the list. Do not do it. Its not just a little flap of skin that you can push a needle through, piercers have a special technique to pierce your tongue to make sure they do not cause injury to you. Go to a licensed professional.

I just got my tongue pierced a few days ago.
I Definitely would never do that alone, if u mess up you could hit and artary and then you would need to worry about bleeding to death. They need to use special clamps that find the exact centre of the tongue where there is nothing fatal that could happen, when you go though be sure that they are licensed because if they mess up you're the one who needs to live with the concequensis for the rest of your life.

Im piercing my own tongue next week., and what you need will be : Metal clean sealed forceps, latex gloves, sterilised needle (the easy to use one, where you push the jewlery in the tip of the needle, and pull it out of the pierced tongue, jewlely slides in easily) needle lube wipes (for easy insertion) and i reccoment H2Ocean natural seasalt mouth wash for oral piercings, 100% effective. But also, lok under yout tongue and put the forceps in between the two veins. Put a torch where the whole in the forceps is, to make sure there arnt many veins. If your still unssure what to do, dont do it. Only do it if you knw exactley how to use equipment, and what to look for, and how to know whether its safe. Hope this helps x

o.k. I had my tongue pierced in July, but I decided I was getting in done in January.

I watched videos on YouTube of others getting it done and researched a hell of a lot into aftercare... basically, for about a week, all you can eat is soup, custard that kind of thing, you ned lots of mouthwash ( after every meal, as soon as you wake up, before you sleep, etc)
anything else you want to know about tongue piercings, just ask =D

by the way... yes, it hurts for a bit, but it really isn't that bad... its sooo worth it..

but DO NOT do it yourself... ever.

1. hit an artery and you've got about 10 seconds to get to hospital and stop the bleeding before you die.
2. ( as if 1 isn't enough) , tongue paralysis does not sound appealing, does it?

There are no arterys in the tongue... just veins...

Yes there most certainly is. It is called the ranine artery. That is why one should not pierce their own tongue. :)

Who ever said that you have about ten seconds to go to hospital before you die is lying. If it does hit anything like an atery or vein, then as it is your tongue, it bleeds very slowly. Unless you let it bleed for about 5 days without medical attention, then you won't die. But I do agree that you shouldn't do it yourself. There are risks and tbh, going to a piercers and getting it down there, was the best.

How old are you?
Either way. Don't do it.
This is one of those piercings that you need serious expertise to do.
You'd also need the right clamps, needles, jewelry, cleaners, and knowledge to do this.
Not a good idea.
