Yes there is but it will only work on galvanized or black iron pipe. If they have a dohickey that will locate copper. Iron or plastic, just like a stud finder, T haven't seen one. The instrument is a sensitive magnet called a galvanometer or dip needle and have been in use for years by power and telephone line to locate burred shielded lines. Good luck, Tom PS. Your best bet is to start at the point the pipe enters the slab and follow it with a jack hammer.

Thanks keep it simple stupid for bringing me up to date. When I retired the only instrument to locate buried pipes was a galvanometer. I try to keep up but really need you guys to keep me informed of new developments. Thanks again, Tom

Try looking for a manifold usually behind the waterheater or something buried in the sheet rock... or look for the Pressure regulating valve that will give you a general dircection
