When I start my washing machine, I noticed a bad smell form the incoming water supply. Can you tell me why it doesn't have an odor out of my faucets in the house? How can I fix this problem?

Do you have a well or is it city water?

It's City water. All of the other faucets seem fine.

Most washer hoses have screens on the hose just after the shut off valve. These screens can pick up bacteria and transmit it to your incoming water. Try this Shut the valves off and pour a glass of water out of the valve with the hoses off. Does the water still smell bad? If it doesn't then remove the hoses and clean the screens and the faucet thread area with bleach. After cleaning the screens. Put some bleach in a wash basin and soak the hoses for a hour to kill any remaining bacteria. Good luck, To9m

It does sound like it could be hair, lint, etc... in the washer sump. You smell the rotting stuff because the water displaces the air in the tub and pushes it in your face. Bleach should do it .
