I have a 2 year old dauchand that is having back problems. She was hit by a car about a year ago in August, luckily we lived in the country and the car was in the soft ground and not on hardtop. Any way last November she started having back problems and dragging her hind legs. We took her to the vet and was told that she had a bulging disk that needed to be operated on. In our area the vets will not do back surgery we would have to take her to the university here to have this surgery. We are talking 2 to 3 THOUSAND DOLLARS for the surgery and anywhere from $600 to $1000 more for test and x-rays. My husband is disabled and I had lost my last job and at the time could not find another one. Any way the vet gave her Prednisone and pain killers and told us to keep her as quite as possible. In no time she was better. She had another spell in May and again with the medication she was fine. This time though she has been having problems for 2 weeks now and she has gone through her medications but this time it has not helped. We are keeping her in a cage to keep her from trying to jump up on the couches and only let her out a few times a day to use the bathroom and to get a little exercise but we can not keep her out for long because she starts chasing our outside cat - dragging her hind feet and all. I have been keeping a watch on her and she is starting to get sore places on her legs and the tops of her hind feet where she is dragging them. I am putting neosporin and bandages on these in hope to get the better and to keep them from getting infected. My question is this.. . Is there anything that we can do to get her better besides surgery? With our limited income we can not afford the $3,000 + for the surgery. We do not want her to suffer either. I have been looking at the doggie carts.. . Do they work?
