Can anyone tell me if it is possible to lock the (FN) function key on a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop? As the computer doesn't have a 10-key pad, you need to hold down the (FN) key to use the number pad (blue numbers) on the alpha keys. I would like to lock the (FN) key so as not to have to hold it down.
Thanks in advance,
Rick

IT' actually really simple if You have vista or windows 7. Just in start search bar write "mobility" and look in search results for " Windows mobility center". A window will open. Find Fuction key in that and select "Function Key" instead of "multimedia"(or any thing else) and that's it.
Or Just follow this to open windows mobility center...
1. Go to Control panel
2. click on Hardware and sound> mobility settings (or something like this)

I have Windows 7 and I'm looking for the same setting. My fingers are not long enough to reach the FN key and the F11/F12 keys with one hand - which is how my notebook's volume up/down function keys are. I don't like having to use both hands to change the volume, it's very inconvenient.
I know about the mobility center, but I would like to create a one-key-shortcut (or at least one I can activate with one hand) to switch between function and multimedia instead of having to use my mouse to get there.
I would guess that the functions in the mobility center are just some kind of links. I'm sure that for every function there must be another way to get those results.
So where would I find where the functions are linked to? Where is the original place that setting can be changed? It must be there somewhere.
Thanks for your help!
