We have a Weimaraner that we got through the rescue. Apparently, he became very sick about a week after he got his live vaccine distemper shot. He began running a fever of 106, and had to be placed on IV fluids. After a few weeks, he progressively got worse and was eventually completely paralyzed. He was diagnosed with HOD, and his owners were going to put him down, but he was rescued. The woman who rescued him had to carry him around for nearly 6 months. He wore a diaper and was on IV pain killers, I think something like morphine. Eventually, he slowly began to regain his strength and learned to walked again, and he now runs all over our 5 acres. His growth plates are all swollen and his hind legs are very bowed and move together when he runs, looks a little like a rabbit, but he can run just as fast or faster than our other dog. He has callouses on the pads of his feet, his genitals, and his belly. I have done a lot of research on HOD and chose not to give him his Distemper booster because many feel it is linked to the distemper vaccination. He is now almost 2 and it doesn't bother him. I have began to look at what distemper is recently, and I am beginning to wonder if HOD and Neurodistemper are one in the same. Does anyone have any insight, or suggestions regarding distemper vaccinations in the Weimaraner breed which have a high prevalence of HOD following the vaccination.

Bless the lady that rescued him. I don't get into medical things like that, and don't know that anybody else here does either. May as well do you own net search as read what somebody here, that knows less than you, finds. Have you looked at American Kennel Club - akc.org (http://www.akc.org) I have found Woodhaven Labradors Articles (http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/articles.html) has reliable, or at least balanced info on many topics.
