I built a new bathroom in my basement and am now preparing to install a shower door. The door will be installed over 12x12 ceramic tile on top of cement wonderboard. To install the track to the walls, the instructions say to drill holes through the tiles with a 5/16 mansonry drill bit. My question is, will a masonry bit cut through ceramic tile? Again, these are the 12x12 variety so they are a little thicker than the 4x4 tiles. Thanks!

Thanks! you could drill your tile with a masonary bit... mark the location... get small piece of wood; make a 5/16 hole ( same bit? )... then use this wood to hold the bit at the marked location... then drill slowly... make sure you use stainless steel screw...

You can get a glass and tile bit at home depot that will word much better the black and decker ones work the best I drill in tile every day just don't push hard and keep the bit from getting hot

Agree with David, get a glass and tile bit. Masonry bit will not break the glaze of the tile.

I agree with using a glass and tile bit and drilling slowly. Get someone to dribble cold water on the tip of the bit and the tile while you are drilling to prevent the bit from heating up. If the tile is porcelain it could take a while. After you drill through the tile you can use a masonary bit to drill through the cement board.
