I have a honda civic dx 1995. It would not start at all. Try to jump start the car many times and nothing no click no sounds but lights in the pannel. My friend unhooked the battery cables and hooked them back again. Then it started making a purring sound when turning the key but beside that nothing. It does a purring sound when key is turn. The lights turn on and the light in the pannel do come on. We tried three different cars to jump start the car and nothing just the purring sound. Also, after trying to jump start and keeping to turn on the car, the car suddenly started one time and were able to drive it home. When turn off immediately it was able to start, so I thought that everything was fine. Next morning when ready to go to work, I tried to turn on the car and nothing no even the cat purring sound. My friend think that it is the alternator because the car shows vital signs. I bought a new battery on April of this year and got anti corrosion treatment. What is going on?

The "cat" purring sound you hear is the electronic fuel pump. I would remove the battery and have it tested, take it back to the store where you got it and have them test it. If it test good, which I don't think it will, but if it does, remove your alternator and have it tested.

Check both ends of the battery cables for clean and tight.

Your problem may be a poor connection through Ignition switch or the Neutral safety switch, or an intermittent open at the starter solenoid.
