I'm 14 and I know it had to be one of the stupidest things ever but yes I did let my friend pierce my cartilage 5 days ago. I didn't hurt at all when I did it. We iced it, they marked the spot with a pin, and they stuck the ear ring through. That night and the next day I was fine, but now it's starting to really hurt at night. For the past two nights I've woken up at around 2 and I just can't go back to sleep because the pain is so bad. Is it normal to hurt that long? It's not infected because I got my second holes in my lobes done professionaly and that I know is infected only because I'm a competitive cheerleader and my top has a really bad habbit of puling on my earing. I've been reading up about cartilage piercing and to tell you the truth I'm really scared about what I've been hearing.
HELP ME!!

WARNING: I encourage NO ONE to pierce their own ear. My mom refused to let me get mine done, and with out parent consent I couldn't so that's why I did mine. But if you want it bad enough you can do what you want
(:

Hun, u need to be bathing your ear in surgical sprit, that will keep any infection away, at least 3 times a day, silly girl huh, lol

You need to take the piercing out. It is very unsafe to pierce your own ears... let alone your cartilage! Although you may have thought the tools you were using were clean, you are not a professional. The tools could have been contaminated, causing baterica to get right in there when you pierced it.

My advice would be to take it out asap, continue to clean the area until its healed. Once its heal... go to a professional to have it done.

Use dial soap on it and it will heal up fast and good I used it on mine when I got it done and take the earring out and use perxoide on it to clean the earring

I let my friend pierce mine 3 days ago. He cleaned the earring & put it right through. Mine was okay for the first couple days, then I took it out to clean it & now it hurts A lot.

Soo I pierced mine last night lol I'm always 14 its fine I mean it stings but its fine, I don't want to touch it or anything, but I've heard you need to twist it, I don't plan on doing it because it stings, but yeah take some pills that's what I'm doing helps a lot :) Good luck!

I also pierced my cartilage last night and I'm 14 by the way, but mine is swollen and red and before I did this I pierced my 3rd hole and it was swollen and red. But I continued to clean it with hydrogen peroxide and it was fine. It may hurt a little but yeah, take some advil or something, and it should let the pain go away. I know it seems like a pretty stupid idea, but to me it's worth it. So, I hope that your ear is supposed to be swollen and red when you pierce your cartilage. Cause otherwise we're in trouble. Hahaha
