Sounds like you have a break in your main. There should be another shut off on the other side of the main. Lock that down and call the city water department. Chances are fair the water seeped into your home and the break is outside your house. There will be digging no matter where the break but let the city do the search for you.

I recently had this problem. You can call a "Leak" detection company to come in and find and mark the leak in the slab. Sorry, don't remember the firms name. Try web search.

To determine if there is a leak, turn off the "Main" water shut off. That's where the water line enters the house. Go to the water meter at the street - check if meter is moving. It shouldn't be moving at all. If it is you have a leak some where between the street main and your house shut off.

I have a duplex and one house side had a leak under the slab. I rented a "Jack Hammer" and in 4 hours had located the two (Hot and Cold) 1/2" water lines in the slab and changed the entire 15 Ft .

I would be sure to use a "K" type copper line under the slab.

A plumber wanted $3000 to do this!!

I had a guy dig up the pipe in front of the house - tie a new line on this and dig around the house and put the new line (Cold) into the house. My guy wouldn't "Tie" the new line onto the house cold line. I did this myself or you could have a plumber do it.

The cost for this new cold line installation was $1200 in Southern Ohio.

You should have a house shut off near where the water comes into your house. You must find and shut this off. Turn on the valve next to the meter if your meter's still running then the leak's outside the house. If the leak's inside the house a leak detection company may have to be called. But it wi;ll save time and labor by finding out just where the leak's located. Good luck, tom
