Does the top edge of the new surround not reach the old drywall line? Please clarify.

Where does the cement board come in?

We need a little more.

Hi,
Cement board runs from tub rim to ceiling, exposing about 2ft above tub surround, trying to figure out how to finish top edge of surround to cement board without tiling, isit possible to finish cement board, and caulk tub surround,or should I,remove cement board above surround and replace it with green drywall?
Thanks,
Gord

Sight unseen or course,
Does the new surround have a built-up lip,say 1-1 1/2"? If so you can glue greenboard to the face with adhesive and finish like regular drywall.

If not(a flat surround like 1/8 inch) tear out would be the best.(although I am not a painter and one could come up with a paint solution for you.)
Good luck,

It does sound like overkill to run cement board to the ceiling but it would be necessary if you have a shower too, do you? Do not paint the cement board.
