I had a steam radiator relocated in a bathrom that is being renovated. The plumber ran a copper pipe to the radiator, leaving so little clearance above it that the ceramic floor tile will be touching the pipe directly. Is that OK? WIll the tile crack as the pipe heats up with steam?

If you've got even 1/2" between the tile and the line, you'll be fine.

Added fyi: You can significantly increase efficiency > decrease utility usage by insulating your hot supplines with a product like one of these (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22pipe+insulation%22&btnG=Google+Search)

Sadly, I think that there is going to be NO space at all-- the steam pipe will be in direct contact with the tile. If you think that the tile might crack under those circustances, I shall have to insist that they break the concrete around the pipe and bury it deeper. :eek:

Break concrete? I think I've misunderstood.

I pictured the pipe laying on top of the tile. Is this not right?
