I received my first Depo shot a month ago. The day after I got the shot I was supposed to start my period. And the reason I went to the doctor was because I thought I was pregnant and I was given a test and it came back negative so they gave me the shot. First of all I thought doctors were supposed to give you the shot while you are on your period. But I never started my period. I'm a month late and I've taken pregnancy tests and they are negative. Yes I'm sure it messes up your periods but I would think I would've started by now since I was given the shot after I had ovulated and the day before my period. I'm having morning sickness and breast tenderness. Help, what is going on with me!
Thank you,
Stef

Yes the Depo shot should be given during the 5 days of your period. Along with a pregnancy test (which you are always supposed to get before you get the Depo shot, even after your first one), being on your period is another way they doctor can be sure you're not pregnant. (It is possible, but rare, to have periods while you are pregnant).

Since you have received the shot, you can't really assume that you are "late", as in most women the Depo shot stops the menstrual cycle altogether.

The sickness and breast tenderness may just be your body adjusting to the hormones.

I would call your doctor though, and get a blood test to make sure you are not pregnant.

That's awful, was the miscarruage from the shot?

My gynecologist said that the shot can cause miscarriages in early pregnancy so that's the verdict.

So sorry to hear that... I'm kind of in the same situation where I was given my shot before my period and now my period has not arrived. It's almost a month so I pray I'm not pregnant although I took a test and it came out negative.

I received the shot when pregnant. The doctor didn't take into consideration that with both children I have, urine tests never worked for me, NEVER. He gave me the shot... 3 months later, I am having heavy bleeding for 3 weeks and at work felt I had to 'push' and in te bathroom, pushed out a fetus. I was 3 and 1/2 months pregnant when I miscarried. I am now taking legal action because it could have been avoided if the doctor didn't neglect my concerns. Who gave the doctor the right to play God?

I was pregnant a week before I got my depo not knowing I was carrying. A week after that I found out I was pregnant. One month later I had molar pregnancy. Tumors engulfed my baby and took over my uterus wall. ii think this is from the depo. I will today finding this page take legal action. I wanted my baby. I was heart broken. I have cancer now because of the molar. They did not give me a test to see if I was pregnant to begin with. I am 16 yrs old. I am broken

I had the depo shot a few years ago and they did a pregnancy test it was negative. A month later I started bleeding and passing huge clots with bits of tissue in them. I figured it was a miscarriage but refused to go back to my doc.

I just got the shot yesterday and they didn't even do a pregnancy test on me at all. Now I am having cramping in my pelvic area

I have been having the depo injection for 2 years now and recently I have had severe cramps, heavy bleeding and have been passing clots and tissue. I think I may have had a miscarriage but I'm not sure? I have done some research and many miscarriages occur when the egg can't implant into the wall, I know that the depo does something to the wall to stop eggs implanting? And so may have caused a miscarriage, can anyone shed some light on this please because I don't knoe what is happening, thanks

Last Friday I found out I had a miscarriage a month after I got my depo shot which I got April 20th and just now finding out the result of the test the doctor requested when I was in the ER for heavily bleeding and pains.. I tried to follow up about the test to my primary doctor but for some reason she was avoiding my husband and I when we asked her about the result. Last Friday September 17 we went to the ER for some acid reflux that closing my esofagus to close.. since we were there I asked the doctor which was the same doctor who seen me the last time and requested for the test so we asked for the result of the test and he told us verbally that YES I had a miscarriage.. but that same day we went to get a copy on the medical result they didn't give it to us and they just told to go talk to one of the nurses upstairs and when we got there all the result somehow became negative.. we don't know what's going on. Me and my husband think that I was pregnant when they gave me the shot which caused me to have a miscarriage.. we are thinking about filing a legal action for abortion.. and for giving us wrong results that put me and my family's health to jeopardy!

Ok, to the woman who ask "Who gave my doctor the right to play god?" - Uh, HELLO- you did! Birth control is playing god (which I am also not against- I'm just making a point). You agreed to having depo (they cannot force you to have that shot) therefore, you are just as responsible for that decision as your doctor is. I'm deeply sorry that you had a miscarriage- I have had one myself. However, before you go and blame your doctor- make sure you realize that it was your decision too.

Let your doctor know of your concerns and they will do a pregnancy test in the office. If it too is negative, but you are still concerned, ask for a blood test before getting the shot.

I been on the DEPO shot for 2 months and now my breasts are supper soared. If I fall sleep on my stomach, when I get up my breast hurt like crazy... and now I been getting cramps on and off for the past two weeks. Also my lower back hurts so much sometimes I can't move. I understand the back pain is normal coming from the shot. but are the cramps and Sourness normal too?

I have not had a period since I started the shot and that was two years ago. I was told you could have spotting but your period could also just stop all together. I think mine stopped because I was just on antibiotics and have yet to start my period. I am going back in a week to get another shot.
