From Computer File Extensions - What are they and what do they do? (http://www.seniormag.com/compcorner/definitions/ext/) they have the following definition for files of type MIM:

MIM A multipart file in the Multi-Purpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) format; often created as the result of sending e-mail with attachments in AOL. The files in a multipart MIM file can be "opened" (unarchived and separated into individual files) using Winzip or a similar program.

Hope this helps.

An MIM file is an internet standard that extends the format of email. It does this to support Text in character sets (other than US-ASCII), non text attachements, multipart message bodies, and header information in non ASCII character sets. The MIM or .mim file extension is interchangeable with the .MIME, or .mime, and indentifies a MIME encoded file. More information here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIM).
