I had a cup with about 1/4 cup of soda in it on the night stand my my laptop was on the bed. My cat tried to get on the night stand and dropped the glass right on my laptop. It was closed so it just hit the back of the monitor.

THE COMPUTER WORKS... so I know it is okay... the monitor is having a problem though. When I open the computer the monitor turns on like usual... after about 10-15 seconds the light on the monitor turns off. If you look at just the right angle you can see that the computer is still on... the monitor light just goes out. When the desktop comes up the light comes back on and then turns off again after about 10-15 seconds.

Does it just need a chance to dry or is there something wrong with it? Will it sry out on it's own or is there something I can do? It's only been a couple of hours and I figure I'll try again in the morning and hope it's better. Will it be okay or is my mother going to kill me that I ruined my new laptop?

Fingers crossed it'll dry out and be OK. Chances are though it's pretty messed up. You'll have to take it back to a repair shop and see if they can do anything.

If it's a new laptop you could possibly try going into the place you brought it and try and get a new one on the guarantee. Obviously the guarantee won't cover accidental damage, so if they figured out something got spilled on it you'll get nothing. That said, maybe your parents contents insurance covers accidental damage on things like this?

I read your post just after it was posted. What you said made me worry all the more. I was up most of the night trying to figure out how to break my mother's heart. At about 4.00 I was wiped out and needed to sleep... I don't know what made me movemy computer from where it usually sits when not in use but I put it just under the foot of my bed and faced the back ports face into the breeze from my fan. I woke up at eight and thaught I'd give it one last try before ripping my mother's heart out and stomping on it. For whatever reason it started up without a problem. My wireless mouse even works just a little bit better. Not that I'm going to do this again in an attempt to boost preformance... new house rule... no cats, dogs or liquids within 15 feet of the laptop... NO EXCEPTIONS! Thanks for your help.

Hi,
I am so glad your laptop is working again! So far, you are very, very fortunate. Your suggestion as to how to protect it is very good. Hopefully, it will continue to be OK.
Best of luck,
