My dryer is not working correctly, when the start button is pressed, it just humms and does not start then shorts out.
Maytag has no manual for this model, and I feel that it is a relay.
If my feeling is correct where would I be able to get the part

You should have a starting switch piggy back on the motor. It or the motor itself is bad. For parts go to ApplianceJunk.com - Appliance Repair Forums - How to Videos (http://www.appliancejunk.com) or Appliance Parts from RepairClinic.com - HomePage (http://www.repairclinic.com) or your local appliance parts house

I have the same problem. This is what happens with my dryer:
I have a Maytag dryer. When I push the timer button, it just hums. If my wife pushes the button and I turn the drum, it will start, then it "clicks" and turns off, until the RPM's are low and then starts up again.
I took the drum and belt off. The motor spins freely. I then spun the blower by hand without the belt and pushed the timer button. Again, it will only engage if the motor is spinning. But it will only stay on for about 4 tenths of a second. Then it "clicks" off and hums, and when the rpm's slow down, it will kick on again for another 4 tenths of a second.
Is this your same problem? If I get an answer before you do, I'll email it to you. My post is "Maytag Dryer tumbler starts/stops"
